IF THE POSTOFFICE GETS ITS WAY, THE USPS WILL ONLY GO DOWN FROM HERE ON. HAS ANY CARRIERS NOTICED THAT ON SAT. YOU SEE FED EX AND UPS DELIVERING. THIS YEAR IN MAIL COUNT OUR OFFICE GAINED, ONE ROUTE GAIN 4 HOURS ALONE. SO IS MAIL VOLUMN DECREASING OR WHEN THE RECESSION ENDS WILL IN INCREASE AGAIN.

As a rural carrier in michigan,I work very hard on my route each day. Last year the postal service had a "count" as they did this year, most routes stayed the same, the postal service wastes money. There are to many people working at one time in my office, meaning supervisors, they walk around doing "nothing". I feel they should get some of the upper management jobs depleted. If you go to some of these offices and see what is going on right there you could save alot of money, not by excluding Saturday deliverly, I can't imagine coming into work on monday and putting up 3 days of mail in 8 hours. Impossible. We will lose alot of revenue if this happens, remember the usps gave away revenue to UPS in the 70's.thank you

You need to get labor costs under control. For instance, a front line SPO makes approx $60,000.00 per year the first year? Thats way to much to pay, Post Masters make anywhere from $59,000.00 upward. Thats way to much for a job that doesn't even touch the mail. You don't need postmasters and supervisors together in the same office each day... The PFP is also a joke, numbers can be manipulated to increase the bonus and I know thats done. Offer a basic salary and if you don't want that , go somewhere else ...

I find it amusing that there is no mention of management cuts. They have cut a lot of things, customer service, clerks, plant closings, hours of operation and now they want to cut Saturday delivery. How is it that management goes untouched.I have even read that UPS will be trimming their management staff. So whats up with the USPS?

as a 31 year postal clerk and 20 year window clerk i have to respond to the video i just watched. while all are making valid points some points need to be made clear to these two very intelligent men.

1. the fact that we the postal service are very visible has made us a viable option for the general public. hence, the comment on the video that in the uk it is sometimes difficult to find a post office. that has not been the case here in the u.s. if you make the situation the same here as in the uk then the end will be near for the usps. why? we cannot be run as a business

2. putting together this video with a tv show i recently watched, the usps nor the u.s. govt can be run like a business.there are some services that are necessary. the usps is one of them. while we cannot be run as a business it is important to note that we can still run efficiently. for example, rather than try to add items such as cell phone sales etc. the usps can offer things that are a minimal cost to the usps but can offer more revenue. i.e.... supply stamps in ample supply. not necessarily a variety of stamps but quantities that we used to have available. many post offices have been going without stamps at all. that is 44 cent stamps.
how about opening box sections in already existing post offices that dont have them. the cost is minimal since our own maintenance people can install them and actual box section modules can be purchased used from internal resources at a discount rate and retrofitted to these offices.

3. how about looking at the supv to employee ratio? does it really take 6 supv to supv 120 carriers even tho these carriers are only in the building 2 hours a day max??? what are these 6 supv doing the rest of the day???

4. staff windows properly. instead of using "standby" time put the window clerks on the windows in busier offices where there are long lines. this increases revenue while overhead stays the same.. you are paying the employee anyway and just pissing off the public when the have to stand in line for a book of stamps knowing that others are there that can help.

5. instead of cutting hours, expand hours and use people that are already qualified to work windows and already have flexibile hours. i.e.... instead of closing for lunch.. stagger lunch hours so the window can stay open during a peak time..
others get their lunch the same time as you do.. they run to do errands on their lunch.. i know this to be true.. i work in a one man office and many times stay in for lunch.. as many as 30 people pull on my door to get in when i am closed.. postal services philosophy on this is.." they will be back or go to another post office".. or.. they will buy their stamps at another office... maybe.... but if they are mailing a package they may go up the street to ups who does not close for lunch...

6. figure out a way to not lose postage on click and ship.. we as window clerks are asked to spot check prepaid parcels done thru click and ship.. and we do that.. to the best of our ability.. and as time alots... however... in many cases the public guesses at the wt of the parcel when calculationg postate online.. if they underestimate the wt and the clerk cannot check that parcel.. we lose money..

7. put collection boxes back on the streets.. again our visibility makes us a viable choice for service.. in our city where i work there have been over 120 corner mail boxes removed from service.. this in an effort to hasten the carriers delivery of his mail (it takes him about 2 min to empty and scan a box), also they used to have a jackpot collection which was a dedicated collection for these boxes... this is all gone..
it may have been an effort to force people to go into an actual post office to mail their letters with the hopes that they would buy something.. good idea in theory..however,.....
while cutting the number of corner boxes the usps also has cut down on the number of times the box is emptied per day.. in some instances the box is emptied at 9:00 am.. and that is the only collection time.. this means in reality that if someone mails something at 9:30 am that mail is automatically delayed a day.... also, since window hours are cut the idea of having them come into a post office and mail their letters becomes mute..as a result...in the real world..the box overflows.. the mail is on the ground.. and noone cares..

these and other ideas are a way of increasing revenue, improving service and cutting costs.. all at a very minimal increase in costs to the usps...
as a side note.. in all sincerity... a very bad scenario has been happening in the usps for some time... inept, unqualified, lazy people have been put in positions of power.. not good.. for anyone.. they cannot figure out how to improve our situation on a local level.. there used to be a test to become a supv..that is gone... now?? raise your hand and say pick me... or.. get in trouble.. and management offers you a management position.... or... if you really dont want to work.. and carry mail in the heat and cold with a bag on your shoulder 8 hours a day or be a clerk and learn a city scheme or work midnites with tues, wed off.. then raise your hand and say pick me.. and they will.. as long as you are not smarter than them...
do they take positions because they want to make a difference? no.. because they see things that need changing and want to change them? no...

thanks for listening..
