FIRST OF ALL, THE SPEAKER FOR NALC, LISTED AS THE LEADER OF THE 1970 STRIKE, WAS NO SUCH PERSON. HE HAS REWRITTEN HISTORY. HE DID EVERYTYHING HE COULD TO KILL UNION RECOGNITION IN THE LEGISLATION AND HE ALSO TRIED DESPERATELTY TO KILL THE CONVERSION OF THE POST OFFICE DEPARTMENT TO THE NEW USPSS. THE HERO WAS GUS JOHNSON, PRESIDENT OF THE NEW YORK BRANCH OF NALC WHO CALLED THE STRIKE. JOHNSON ALSO DECLARED THERE WERE SDS WORKRS IN HIS MEMBERSHIP THAT INSISTED UPON THE STRIKE,. THE STRIKE WAS CRUCIAL TO LETTER CARRIERS AND ENDED UP WITH TRUE COLLECTIVE BARGAINING NOT COLLECTIVE BEGGING.
