U.S. Postal Service Restructuring – House Oversight Committee – 2004-03-23 – Product 181083-1-DVD – House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight. Witnesses testified regarding the restructuring of the U.S. Postal Service before a joint meeting of the House Government Reform Committee and the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee. Among the concerns addressed were the declining volume of mail handled by the Postal Service, declining Postal Service revenues, increasing postal rates, and the Postal Service escrow account. The top priorities expressed were maintaining the viability of the Postal Service, and protecting universal service and frequent delivery. Rep. Davis chaired this joint meeting.

As part of an oversight hearing, U.S. Postal Service administrators testified about modernization, costs, competition, and other issues. Postal employee union representatives and management organization representatives testified about contract bargaining, and the issue of outsourcing postal deliveries causing loss of delivery jobs.
